Hilo - Driving Around the Island

on Trip Advisor a person had asked about driving from VNP back to Hilo and how those roads would be and and destination expert said to allow an extra hour or so coming back from it because there tends to be lots of accidents that totally close down the road! They also said that you don't want to be driving back in the dark from there because of the wind and if it rains the roads are horrible. They said better to get the earliest start possible and do what you want to do and then get back to the Hilo area so you won't have worries about missing the ship.
